My sister sent me this recipe, it is out of a "Ironworkers Local 293" German recipe book that she bought at the state fair in Mandan, North Dakota back in 1984. I fixed a batch of it today and it is really good.
1 medium onion, diced fine 2 tablespoons of butter 4-5 medium potatoes peeled and cubed
Brown onions in the butter. Add the potatoes and enough water to cover the potatoes sufficiently. Add a dash of salt and pepper and a few bay leaves. Simmer until the potatoes are soft
Dough for the knephla
2 cups flour 1 egg 1/4 teaspoon baking powder enough milk to make a stiff dough
Cut the dough into the water with the potatoes and onions. Simmer 15-20 minutes, uncovered Then add as much heavy whipping cream as you like to make it as soupy as you like.
Heat and serve!
