Laurie made these last night and Lordy sakes, a fine tasting meatball. Enjoy.
Ingredients; 1 lb. ground beef 1/2 lb. ground pork w/Italian seasoning 1/2 cup bread crumbs 1 egg 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk 1 sweet onion, finely chopped 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon pepper 1/2 teaspoon Allspice 2 tablespoons olive oil 2 cups Leinenkugel's Hoppin' Helles or a "hoppy" beer/ale 2 tablespoons flour 2 tablespoons milk
Combine and mix the first nine (9) ingredients. Form the mixture into golf ball size meatballs. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven and brown meatballs in oil. Pour beer over meatballs and simmer for one (1) hour. Remove meatballs from beer drippings. In a small container/cup, mix flour and milk until smooth and creamy. SLOWLY add mixture to beer drippings (beer drippings you used to cook meatballs) over medium heat until the beer drippings thickens. Place meatballs back into the beer drippings and carefully mix together. Serve over egg noodles or mashed potatoes.

Oh boy does this sound tasty, Bob. I'm not familiar with that beer, would other beer work? Just curious, what did you do with the rest of the can of milk?

Any beer with extra hops will work; Sierra Nevada Torpedo, a IPA of some sorts. Just ask someone in your liquor department. Laurie sometimes makes 7 Layer bars with the leftover milk.....sometimes nothing. She wishes it came in smaller containers but Aldi does sell a small can of it.

Ok, Thanks, Bob. After I posted this I went to google to see if I could freeze the leftover milk and was happy to see that I could. I made sure to read half a dozen responses and everyone said the same thing. One recommendation was to freeze it in the amount you needed for a specific recipe, so that's what I'll do. Tom read the recipe when he got it off the printer for me and said it sure does sound good, like comfort food.
How many meatballs does this make, and does Laurie use any special kind of bread crumbs? I need the beer, bread crumbs and the meat, I have the rest of the stuff. I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm really looking forward to this dish.
Thanks again.
