Well I just done a first for me. My laptop a Compaq Presario is just over 3 years old and I have white lines across the display and have worn the keyboard slap out. Never worked on a laptop before. Ordered parts from Amazon. Display was $49.95 and keyboard was $16.95 so here goes. Found a video on YouTube on how to take it apart which was a great help. Took me about 2 hours and had to use a magnifying glass, but Success it all worked great. This is the one I just upgraded to Windows !0. It has an I3 CPU and 8 GB's of ram, It's like I got a new toy now.

I have never owned a laptop so my repair experience would be nothing to add. Having said, I have repaired or replaced hardware on some of my desktop HP's with success.
Glad you got your laptop fixed and nothing like finding a youtube to assist when needed for such repairs.
p..s. for those that may want to go this route, by chance do you have the video (youtube) link to share here?

It is an excellent video about 15 minutes long. A micro screwdriver set is a must have, and a magnifying glass helped me bunches. Anybody wanting to attempt this, just type in display and laptop model into YouTube search.

Thanks for sharing Butch and this is one nice video which I'm sure for those with laptops that have not replaced their screen will find this extremely useful.

It was my fault mine went bad, I had the laptop in the bed watching a movie and had fallen asleep and left a cigarette lighter laying at the top of the key board, well the movie woke me in a little bit and I reached over and slammed it closed and heard the crunch. Well it still worked but I had a white line from top to bottom of the screen
